Rediculous

This is maybe the biggest mess in the history of the BCS, except for the year Nebraska made it into the title game. Just because Florida is 12-1 and won the SEC doesn't mean they're the second best team in the country. Sure Florida had to get through the SEC, but they struggled to some ugly wins. They only beat Tennessee 21-20, and beat Vanderbilt by 6 (Vanderbilt has reportedly called Michigan the better team-Vandy was their only common opponent), and South Carolina by 1. Not to mention, their loss, by 10 to Auburn, was much worse than Michigan's loss. Michigan lost only by three to the #1 team in the country. I wonder if Michigan had won would people give Ohio St. a shot at a rematch, or would they say that they "had already had their chance"? And this isn't a round robin tournament, the object of the BCS is to match the two best teams, which it clearly didn't do this year.

I thought that Michigan was the better team, but Florida had the tougher schedule and therefore may have "deserved" it more. To me, the only question is whether or not the fact that Michigan's only loss came on the road to OSU outweighed by the fact that Florida had an overall tougher schedule. I think that's basically an opinion... there's no right or wrong answer there. It just sucks it has to come to that and not a playoff system.

Dont forget about Ball St. who Michigan beat by 8. So does that mean NDSU would lose to Michigan by 3?

I am not trying to bash Michigan in anyway. But when all is said and done, the number 2 spot in the BCS Title Game has to go to Florida. I mean come on now, toughest schedule in the country, they went 9-1 in the SEC, they won their conference title, they are a champion. Michigan is a 2nd place team. Florida won 9 games in the SEC, how do you leave them out??? They beat Tenn, Lsu, Ark, plus an improved Ken team, SC, Bama, and their rival Florida St., Michigan beat Wisconsin, Notre Dame and PSU, and to me Notre Dame is clearly overrated. Also, Florida played 9 bowl teams, Michigan played 7. So who do you give it to a conference champion who went -9-1 in the SEC? Or a 2nd place Michigan team? Do the math.

Stefan, leaving Michigan out because they took 2nd in their conference is crap. So if OSU was in the Big 12 and Michigan lost to them then they could make it? Just because the best team is from one conference does not mean the 2nd best team is from that conference.

If OU hadn't gotten jobbed by the refs they would probably be in the title game, or at least definitely in the discussion

Meh. Oklahoma's good wins were at A&M and against Nebraska in the title game. No way that would match up with Michigan or Florida.

this is college football, if you dont win your conference title then you dont deserve to play in the national championship, simple as that.

I would also like to add: You need to fricken give credit to Urban Meyer. Looking past the numbers and the schedule, I mean he did recruit the number one class this year and the number one to ever come to Florida. He plays 27 freshmen, who all contribute quite a bit. Plus he is 12-0 against Floridas big 3 rivals.(FLA St., Georgia, Tennessee) Do you think any voters took that into acount?

fetch said...

Haha no I dont think the voters took that into account. One voter had Florda at #1 and another had them at #5. The voters are retarded. And Oklahoma played for the title without winning the Big 12, and Nebraska played for the title without even making the Big 12 title game. And just because the second best team is in the same conference as the best team, they shouldn't be penalized. I think Florida finished with the third best record in the SEC last year in hoops and the second best record in the SEC east, but they obviously shouldn't have made the title game right

why would voters take the ranking of the recruiting class into account?

it also makes no sense to say that you have to win your conference.... if the goal is to get the two best teams into the national championship game (which presumably is the goal of the bcs), and the 2 best teams are from the same conference, they should go. i'm not saying that michigan deserved it over florida or vice versa, but it doesn't make any sense to penalize a team because the best team in the country happens to be in their conference.

I agree with Jon. Ming your argument is lacking in substance. And fuck the refs at Oregon.

fetch... thats because college basketball has a playoff. WHat I was trying to say on my last comment is that they gave the benefit of the doubt to Meyer, hes been working his ass of to get this team as far as he can, and hes one step. He went out and got the number one class.

**one step away*** is what i meant

ALso I mixed up the home record with the record against their big rivals. It's 6-0.

also responding to the conference championship thing... then every conference should have a championship, or else just completely get rid of conference championships period... even though it obviously benefited Florida this year, but I say you should have one or the other.

Anonymous said...

well if you're going to use that argument, then you should say lloyd carr is a better coach and the michigan players are working harder because they're doing as well even though they're not as talented.

fetch said...

I agree with Ming in the fact that conference championship games should either be forgotten or have one for every conference. I'd just like to throw out the random fact that Florida has to be the first team ever to play for the title whose backup QB is better than their starter

I also want to add that, why reward a conference runner up over a team that won its conference? A conference champion should carry more weights than a conference runner up. So I guess according to your guys, you are devaluing a conference championship?

Anonymous said...

No he isnt. Lets just say Leak isnt an option QB.

Anonymous said...

so is central michigan more deserving than michigan? after all, they won their conference.

i think winning the conference obviously carries weight (and i agree that everything should be the same), but i don't think its the end all to decide things.

Anonymous said...

Yup, cuz Central Michigan was in tghe national title picture

Anonymous said...

well maybe they should've been. they won their conference.

would you put louisville above michigan?

Anonymous said...

no, not under the current system, but if the rules were how i think it should be, then yes Louisville would deserve it more than Michigan

fetch said...

So a team that backed into their conference title is more deserving than the second best team in the country? or third ranked, if you wish to go there.

Anonymous said...

i echo what mr. fetch says.

Anonymous said...

Louisville didnt really back into their conference title.

it took a last week triple OT loss by rutgers to give louisville the conference title. pretty much backing into it. but then i guess louisville is better than michigan because they lost to 2-loss rutgers rather than undefeated ohio st.
